November - December 2024  Volume 23: Issue 6

Bible For Children Website

We have had to redesign our website due to the increasing numbers of languages being offered.  We have continued our alphabetical listing of all the languages, which has worked well.  But now we have divided the languages into Major languages (those with one million or more speakers) and Other languages (mainly our next 1000 languages with as little as 500 speakers).

Another major addition is a clickable world map.  Users can select a country and view a list of all the BFC languages in that country.  For example, we have about 100 languages in India. And because of all the tribal languages in Papua New Guinea, there will be hundreds of languages in that country!

Please pray as we keep adjusting for the future!

I hope you are well. It was exciting for me to learn about the bible for children’s site.  I saw that there is a link to the Shi language translation of the Children’s bible.  Shi is a language spoken in my husband’s family as well as the area I work in and I was excited to see that there may be another child focused resource.  However, when I click on the link for Shi from the bible for children site or from the Joshua project site, the text is not recognizable as Shi and instead it looks very much like the Uzbek version.  Please let me know if there is a bible for Children version for Shi as I would love to use it.

Note

Occasionally BFC has been scammed by dishonest translators.  When discovered, we take action immediately to obtain a correct translation.  In the case of Shi, Tikva has directed us to a trustworthy translator, and we will soon have true Shi Bible stories.

I am Pastor Josué of the Shalom Missionary Parish, in Bukavu in the DR Congo. Thank you for putting the Bible online for our children. These very rich documents contribute to the spiritual development of our children.  My request is to have these manuals in paper format if possible via my mailbox or if you also have them, in addition to the electronic format.

I am working with a Bible translation agency in India. I would like to use this material for the language community we serve. I wanted to translate the material into the local language, could you please give us the permission to use it?

Next 1000 Languages

Thank you for praying for this vital project.  The Lord has provided more helpers, and we hope to complete these 1000 languages within the next 6 months.

We have been working with Wycliffe and Pioneer translation ministries, and will now be approaching more Bible translation ministries to make contracts for more languages.

One source says there are 2,341 languages with either the whole Bible or the New Testament translated.  We will soon have about 1,500 languages on our website, which means there are another 800 languages we will now be seeking.  Please pray as we approach more translation ministries!

BFC World Update Banquet Report

This year we offered our World Update Banquet at noon time, by request of some supporters.  This did work well for many supporters, but others were not able to come at that time.  Also, quite a few of our older supporters are having health issues, and we have been visiting them in various hospitals.

The numbers were down, but the food was great, and our supporters again encouraged us greatly!

Maybe next year we should have both noon and evening banquets?
But don’t tell that yet to our amazing banquet organizers :)

Bloom Library

Bible for Children supports the Bloom Library created by SIL

(Wycliffe) www.bloomlibrary.org.  Bloom now has around 21,000 free books, of which almost 3,000 are Bible Books.  BFC has supplied 1,620 of the Bible Books, and we are adding hundreds more. Our associate in England, Alastair, is overseeing our Bloom Library ministry.

Here are three reports from SIL and the Bloom Library:

1. In the Lotud community of Malaysia, a remarkable transformation is underway, spearheaded by Sylvia’s unwavering dedication to literacy over the past 15 years. Thanks to her efforts, parents and grandparents are actively passing on their heritage to the younger generation. The newly dedicated Lotud Community Learning Center has become a vibrant hub where children immerse in their unique cultural heritage and language through storybooks and educational activities created in Bloom.

2. Literacy efforts in many countries are faltering because many marginali zed communities don’t have books in their lang uages, depriving both children and adults of essential educational tools. Literacy is not only about reading—it’s crucial for preserving cultural heritage and ensuring no one is left behind.

At a recent SIL workshop in Uganda, participants experienced the profound impact of Bloom software. An attendee remarked, “Bloom has opened up the gateway to storytelling and story writing in the Nyole community. This tool is breaking barriers and improving the reading culture, especially for children.”

3. Aneli, from Namibia, knows first hand the challenges of being unable to read and write. A turning point in her life came when she was dropped off in the wrong town simply because she couldn’t read the signs. Her moment of vulnerability propelled her to seek literacy classes. This commitment led her from vulnerability to independence.  Aneli’s success story is one of many that underscores the importance of access to literacy, especially in one’s preferred language.

Bloom aims to support this transformation on a global scale with a goal to publish 200 books in every language, ensuring all children can flourish through reading.

When a person is convicted of a crime here in Manitoba, that person is taken to a temporary jail called the Remand Centre.  A Judge, within one month, will then sentence that person to a length of time in jail.

I have been visiting the Remand Centre once a month with one of my sons and grandsons.  We can see the hopelessness in the eyes of the men and women awaiting their jail time.  We tell them there is hope, and His name is Jesus!  We also tell them they have been believing the lies of our enemy, and that is why they are now in jail.  We then share that there is truth, and His name is Jesus!

We speak to about 35 men each month, and sometimes a dozen women.  Most are under 30 years old.  And they all need Jesus.  We show two episodes from the excellent video series called Christianity Explored.  We also distribute Bible for Children’s Bible story booklet called “When God Made Everything”, which explains the true history of the world, along with the wonderful Gospel message.

Please pray these dear prisoners will believe the Bible, and turn to the God of all hope!
