The Lord said to him, 'What is that in your hand?' Exodus 4:2
Murdo was an old man who lived in a retirement home. Every day, he saw street people going to the nearby park to find a place to sleep. Murdo wanted to do something to help these people. He wanted to do something to show them that God loves them.
'What can I do, Lord?' Murdo prayed. 'I can't bring people here and I don't have money or anything to help them.'
'You do have something.' The thought came into his mind so strongly that it was almost like God actually spoke to Murdo. 'You have your big Thermos flask.'
The big Thermos flask. Murdo had kept it because he and his wife and children had used it so many times for family picnics. Too big for him to use, it sat in his cupboard as a remembrance of happier days. Now what would God want him to do with the big Thermos flask?
'Fill it with coffee and go for a walk in the park early tomorrow morning.' Again, the thought was so powerful it seemed like a command.
Next morning, Murdo was up early as usual. He filled the flask with coffee, added sugar and milk, took ten disposable cups and went off to the park. Within half an hour he had given away all his coffee - and the people who drank it listened as he told them about Jesus and God's love.
Murdo only had a big Thermos flask. What do you have?
Prayer: Lord, use whatever I have to bless others and Praise Jesus. Amen.
